Adventure of the Week

Haley submitted this photo from her most recent adventure on Mt Hood. Getting good use out those MSR snowshoes, they explored the fresh snow fall and beautiful evergreens. 'Tis the season!

Adventure of the Week

Alan laughed when he saw us at REI with our Hubba Hubba tent considering when he and his friends go camping it's more of a Hubba Hubba Hubba adventure. That's right, three single person Hubba tents all in a row. Love it.

This particular adventure led them to Phantom Ranch in the Grand Canyon back in March 2008.

An Urban Adventure

Just to the north of San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge, is a little town called Sausalito. Full of active healthy people and beautiful little shops, Sausalito is known for breathtaking views. Not too far from where we are staying, we have wandered the streets and greeted folks all over town. Here are some of our favorties:

First up, breakfast with Jenny at The Lighthouse Cafe. Jenny is all you want out of a breakfast server! She is friendly, patient and full of smiles, not to mention quick on the coffee refill (a must for sleepy Erin). The food is excellent and the energy is warm, inviting, and easy going.

Next stop, Cass' Marina for sailing lessons! But don't miss the art car parked out front.

Sailing is huge in Sausalito and the boats are beautiful. Wandering down the dock's at the Sausalito Boardwalk can be a great way to spend the afternoon.

There are also 2 houseboat communities. One, The Gates Cooperative, is complete with a paddle wheel and other artistic contributions to the grounds.

Last, but not least, we met some of the most informative and helpful people at Mike's Bikes on the north side of town. Dan, was excited to share some of his favorite rides including a highlighted map and routes to access them. The store also sponsors a yearly Africe Bike Drive! Last year they collected 406 bikes that are now in Botswana changing the lives of their owners. They not only transport the bikes, but they also train people on maintenance and help set up "sister shops" so they can keep these bikes running for a long time to come. Their goal is over 800 bikes this year and for every bike donated Varsity Painting will contribute $30 to Children's Hospital of Oakland in the name of the donor. WOW!

Bikes, bikes and more bikes!

We have been in the San Francisco bay area for a few weeks now and have all been consumed by the bike bug. It’s easy to see why biking is so popular in this area with the amazing views and calming curvy roads and trails.

One of the best loops for the road bikers in town is the Marin Headlands loops. After a tip from Dan at Mike’s Bikes, Erin rode the route while Dave and our friend Drew caught some waves.

A special thank you to Dylan with the Yakima Bike Vigilantes for editing and Go Pro for hooking us up with the camera!

Megan and Brandon have explored a different kind of biking. They started in Canada and continued in California on “Mt Tam” where Gary Fischer and friends started the trend back in the 70s.

Adventure of the Week

This week’s adventure winner went above and beyond the typical by literally climbing his way around the world. Eric and friend Matt attempted a 500 day rock climbing journey, stopping just shy at 481 days. The submission we received was a video journal entry from their climb of the “Totem Pole”.
Here are a few other photos from their journey.

Absolutely beautiful. Nice work gentlemen!

High kicks

Enthusiasm may be Dave’s middle name. That’s all there is to it. As a fearless leader and an occasional goofball we typically end the day with a good high kick. Rebecca at Concord captured on of these moments and emailed the picture to our adventure email. Too funny. Thanks Rebecca!
